Cut four squares of the steel and stack them into a square billet. add shims of contrasting steel, such as 15n20 or pure nickel, and then forge weld and draw the billet down into a 1 inch square bar. cut the bar into four pieces, stack, and re weld until the desired size grid is achieved.
